080522: Ten new Nordic games supported

Ten new Nordic game projects have just been granted millions in funding from the Nordic Computer Game Program.

This year’s first round of development grants took place at the international game conference Nordic Game 2008, where 3 million Danish kroners’ worth of funding found its way to the Nordic game industry.
 
Choosing this round’s grant recipients was no easy task. As many as 75 game projects were submitted to the Nordic Computer Game Program, and most of them were extremely qualified.
 
“We received many applications this time, and the majority reflect the Nordic countries' tradition for innovation, creativity and quality. For instance, the applications involved, amongst other things, fewer Vikings than in the past, which is definitely not a bad thing”, it emerged from a joint statement from the expert group which evaluated the many applications.
 
The group also expressed great pleasure in receiving so many applications, but, at the same time, were saddened to have to disappoint so many talented people:
 
“The projects which have been granted funding in this round all show signs of an excellent understanding of the relationship between concept, target groups, budget and team purpose,” the collected statement read.
 
The following Nordic game companies received funding in this year’s first round:
 
ZOINK Games (Sweden), 600,000 DKK for WIIWAA
                          
Upside Studios AB (Sweden), 500,000DKK for Eli                 
 
Press Play (Denmark), 400,000DKK for Max & the Magic Marker        
 
Everyplay Ltd. (Finland), 300,000DKK for Groove                          
 
Frictional Games HB (Sweden), 300,000DKK for Lux Tenebras                 
 
Frozenbyte Oy (Finland), 300,000DKK for Splot        
                                   
Housemarque Oy (Finland), 300,000DKK for ROPE        
 
Kloonigames (Finland), 100,000 DKK for Crayon Physics Deluxe        
                 
In addition to the above-mentioned projects, two of the applicants were granted DKK 100,000 each to improve their applications.
